Once abandoned on the streets of rural Manitoba, Jack Skellington had learned to survive on his own. It took patience, care, and kindness from the team at D’Arcy’s Animal Rescue Centre to show him what it meant to truly belong.

Rescue

In October 2019, a small Jack Russell terrier with a black spot was found wandering Steinbach, Manitoba. He was named “Jack Skellington” by shelter staff and volunteers as he arrived during the spooky halloween season. At six years old, he had never been trained, neutered, or vaccinated. He was given as a gift to his previous owner who did not care for his size or well-being. This person would leave him outside, often for days, to fend for himself, before ultimately abandoning him.

Recovery

When Jack arrived at D’Arcy’s Animal Rescue Centre in Winnipeg, he was fearful and unsure. The team gave him the care, patience, and comfort he needed to trust again. He was neutered, provided with proper health checks and vaccinations, and was ready to find the home he deserved.

A New Beginning

Jack met a young couple who welcomed him into their home and growing family and named him “Larry”. Today, he is a cherished companion who spends his days playing and resting in the warmth of his family. “While we can tell Larry has had a rough start, we couldn’t imagine our busy household without his little footsteps,” says Adam, his adopter. “We’re grateful for D’Arcy’s ARC for helping him find his way to us!”
